ایم بی اے کے دوران میکڈونلڈز اور کے ایف سی کی مارکیٹنگ سٹریٹیجیز کا ایک دلچسپ کیس سٹڈی کرنے کا موقع ملا۔ ویسے تو یہ دونوں فاسٹ فوڈ کے گلوبل امریکن برانڈز ہیں، مکڈونلڈز کی پرفارمنس کے ایف سی سے بہت بہتر رہی ھے اور اس وقت تک مکڈونلڈز نہ صرف اپنی انڈسٹری میں، بلکہ ہر طرح کے کامیاب برانڈز کی لسٹ میں ٹاپ ٹین میں شامل ہوچکا ھے۔
امریکہ میں مکڈونلڈز کا ریونیو اور پرافٹ کے ایف سی کے مقابلے میں ڈبل سے زیادہ ھے اور مارکیٹ شئیر کا بڑا حصہ بھی اسی کے پاس ھے۔ صورتحال دلچسپ اس وقت ہوتی ھے جب آپ ان دونوں برانڈز کی چائنہ میں کارکردگی کا جائزہ لیں۔ یہ دونوں برانڈز غالباً 80 کی دہائی میں پہلی دفعہ چائنہ آئے اور اس وقت سے اب تک، ایک دوسرے کو انتہائی سخت مقابلہ دے رھے ہیں۔
مکڈونلڈز نے جب چائنہ میں قدم رکھا توان کی سٹریٹیجی تھی کہ وہ اپنے امیریکن برانڈ کو چائنہ میں لے کر آئیں گے اور اپنی پراڈکٹس میں کسی بھی قسم کی بڑی تبدیلی نہیں کریں گے۔ ان کا وژن یہ تھا کہ وہ ایک امریکی برانڈ ہیں اور ان کے کسٹمرز ان کے ہیمبرگر یا مک چکن کھانے آتے ہیں، نہ کہ چائنیز نوڈلز یا سوپ۔
دوسری طرف کے ایف سی نے مختلف سٹریٹیجی اپنائی۔ کے ایف سی نے چین کے مشہور شیفس کو لے کر ایک 50 رکنی کنورشیم بنایا جس کا کام کے ایف سی کے مینو کا ریویو کرنا تھا اور اسے چائنیز ٹیسٹ کے مطابق ڈھالنے کیلئے ضروری مصالحے اور اجزا کے تحت تیار کروانا تھا۔ اسی لئے کے ایف سی نے اپنے فرائیڈ چکن کو کبھی نوڈلز میں مکس کرکے ایک نئی ڈش بنائی تو کبھی مکسڈ ویجی ٹیبلز کو چائنیز سٹائل میں بنا کر سائیڈ ڈش کے طور پر پیش کیا۔
چینی عوام کا ریسٹورنٹ کے حوالے سے مزاج امریکہ سے بہت مختلف ھے۔ چینی جب اپنے کسی دوست یا رشتے دار سے ملتے ہیں تو اسے اپنے گھر انوائیٹ کرنے کی بجائے کسی ریسٹورنٹ لے کر جاتے ہیں۔ اسی چیز کو مدنظر رکھتے ہوئے کے ایف سی اور مکڈونلڈز دونوں نے امریکہ میں بنے چھوٹے چھوٹے ریسٹورنٹس کے برعکس چائنہ میں باقاعدہ بڑے بڑے ریسٹورنٹس قائم کئے جن میں بچوں کے کھیلنے کی جگہیں بھی بنائی گئیں۔
امریکہ میں عام طور پر فاسٹ فوڈ کے آؤٹ لیٹس مین شاہراہوں، ہائی ویز اور کاروباری مراکز کے پاس ہوتے ہیں جہاں سے لوگ اپنی مرضی کا سینڈوچ پیک کروا کر، یا کھا کر جلد اپنے اپنے کام کو روانہ ہوجاتے ہیں۔ چائنہ میں اس کے برعکس ان دونوں فاسٹ فوڈ جائنٹس نے ڈاؤن ٹاؤن ایریاز میں اپنے ریسٹورنٹس بنائے جہاں لوگوں کی بڑی پاپولیشن رہتی ھے اور وہ باقاعدہ پلان بنا کر ان ریسٹورنٹس میں کھانا کھانے آتے ہیں۔
چائنہ میں کے ایف سی کے پاس مکڈونلڈز سے تقریباً ڈبل مارکیٹ شئیر ھے، حالانکہ امریکہ میں مکڈونلڈز کے ایف سی کو اپنے پاس بھی پھٹکنے نہیں دیتا۔ اس کی کیا وجہ ھے؟
اس کی مین وجہ کے ایف سی کی چائنیز کلچر کا ' ایڈاپٹ ' کرنے کی سٹریٹیجی تھی جو اس نے 80 کی دہائی سے اپنائی اور جسے مکڈونلڈز نے شروع میں اپنی روایت کے خلاف قرار دیا۔ اب حالت یہ ھے کہ مکڈونلڈز نے اپنے مینو میں بہت سے آئیٹمز چائنیز سٹائل میں متعارف کروانا شروع کردیے ہیں اور وہ آہستہ آہستہ اس کے رزلٹس بھی دیکھ رھے ہیں۔
باٹم لائن یہ ھے کہ ان دونوں کمپنیوں نے اپنے اپنے حساب سے چائنہ کے کلچر کو ایڈاپٹ کیا اور اس کے ثمرات بھی دیکھیں۔ اس کے برعکس اگر آپ ان کی پاکستان میں مارکیٹنگ سٹریٹیجی دیکھیں تو نہ تو کوئی خاص کسٹمائزیشن نظر آتی ھے اور نہ ہی لوکل کلچر کی کوئی جھلک۔ زیادہ سے زیادہ ان دونوں کمپنیوں نے اپنی مڈل ایسٹ کی پراڈکٹس کو یہاں متعارف کروا دیا ھے۔ مزید براں، انہوں نے عوام کی معاشی حالت کے مطابق اپنی پرائسنگ بھی ایڈجسٹ نہیں کی۔ اگر 2 میاں بیوی اور 3 بچے مکڈونلڈز جائیں اور ایک ایک میل لیں تو ان کا ڈھائی سے تین ہزار کو بل بنتا ھے، جبکہ اس اماؤنٹ میں وہ کسی بھی اچھے ڈائننگ ریسٹورنٹ میں کھانا کھا سکتے ہیں۔
یہی وجہ ھے کہ پاکستان میں لانگ ٹرم میں یہ دونوں کمپنیاں مجھے چلتی ہوئی نظر نہیں آرہیں۔ جب تک یہ لوکل کلچر اور پرائسنگ کے مطابق اپنی پراڈکٹس متعارف نہیں کرواتیں، یہ صرف آبادی کے 10 فیصد کو ہی ٹارگٹ کرتی رہیں گی اور باقی 90 فیصد کو اگنور کردیں گی۔
یہ 90 فیصد عوام کا سیگمنٹ بہت بڑا پوٹینشل اور کاروباری موقع فراہم کررہا ھے۔ لیکن آفرین ھے ہمارے لوکل بزنس مین پر، جس نے لوکل فاسٹ فوڈ کے برانڈز متعارف بھی کروائے تو یا تو ان کی کوالٹی گھٹا دی، یا قیمتیں اوپر لے گیا۔
اگر کوئی اچھا بزنس مین چاھے تو فاسٹ فوڈ کی اس بڑے مارکیٹ میں پائے جانے والے پوٹینشل کو استعمال کرکے چند سالوں میں کروڑپتی بن سکتا ھے!!!

A woman baked chapatti (roti) for members of her family and an extra one for a hungry passerby. She kept the extra chapatti on the window sill, for whosoever would take it away.
Every day, a hunchback came and took away the chapatti. Instead of expressing gratitude, he muttered the following words as he went his way: "The evil you do remains with you: The good you do, comes back to you!"
This went on, day after day. Every day, the hunchback came, picked up the chapatti and uttered the words: "The evil you do, remains with you: The good you do, comes back to you!"
The woman felt irritated. "Not a word of gratitude," she said to herself… "Everyday this hunchback utters this jingle! What does he mean?" One day, exasperated, she decided to do away with him. "I shall get rid of this hunchback," she said. And what did she do? She added poison to the chapatti she prepared for him!
As she was about to keep it on the window sill, her hands trembled. "What is this I am doing?" she said. Immediately, she threw the chapatti into the fire, prepared another one and kept it on the window sill. As usual, the hunchback came, picked up the chapatti and muttered the words: "The evil you do, remains with you: The good you do, comes back to you!"
The hunchback proceeded on his way, blissfully unaware of the war raging in the mind of the woman. Every day, as the woman placed the chapatti on the window sill, she offered a prayer for her son who had gone to a distant place to seek his fortune. For many months, she had no news of him.. She prayed for his safe return.
That evening, there was a knock on the door. As she opened it, she was surprised to find her son standing in the doorway. He had grown thin and lean. His garments were tattered and torn. He was hungry, starved and weak. As he saw his mother, he said,
"Mom, it's a miracle I'm here. While I was but a mile away, I was so famished that I collapsed. I would have died, but just then an old hunchback passed by. I begged of him for a morsel of food, and he was kind enough to give me a whole chapatti. As he gave it to me, he said, "This is what I eat everyday: today, I shall give it to you, for your need is greater than mine!"
"As the mother heard those words, her face turned pale. She leaned against the door for support. She remembered the poisoned chapatti that she had made that morning. Had she not burnt it in the fire, it would have been eaten by her own son, and he would have lost his life!
It was then that she realized the significance of the words: "The evil you do remains with you: The good you do, comes back to you!"
Do good and Don't ever stop doing good, even if it is not appreciated at that time.

Kashmiri Americans Protest Against Indian Atrocities
New York. July 19, 2016. Hundreds of Kashmiri Americans and friends of Kashmir staged a peaceful protest in front of the Indian Mission to the United Nations to express their anguish over the killing of 50 innocent civilians in Kashmir and wounding more than 1500.
Dr. Ghulam Nabi Mir (Ohio) said, "Once again Indian occupation forces are exacting a heavy price from Kashmiri people for demanding their right to 'AAzadi, freedom, justice and self-determination. And once again the United Nations and its exclusive club, the Security Council is watching as a deaf, mute and blind body as Indian soldiers keep maiming and massacring people in cities, towns and villages of Kashmir. With no means to put a stop to the atrocities and to implement the will of the people, the valiant people of Kashmir are doing what they can and what they must- they are taking to the streets in defiance of the barbaric laws of the center and its hand picked puppets.
We ask our people to remain steadfast, but peaceful, shun means of violent retaliation even as the state terrorizes the population. We ask the United Nations Security Council to fulfill its obligations by implementing its binding resolutions to persuade India to hold a free and unfettered plebiscite in Jammu and Kashmir. Dr. Mir added.
Sanna Naqash, a Kashmiri American youth from Washington made a passionate appeal to the world powers to listen to the cries coming from the streets of Kashmir. The hapless people need your help in their hour of need. She said that our blood is boiling with pain and anger but we will have to remain resolute but peaceful.
Dr. Ghulam Nabi Fai said, "The situation in Kashmir is deteriorating day by day since July 8th when 22-year-old Burhan Wani was killed by Indian army. More than 300,000 people including youth and women attended his funeral. Since then 47 persons including teenagers and women were killed by Indian army. Apart from magnitude of violence by the occupation forces, the most poignant aspect of the situation is the acute suffering of the whole population caused by the curfew, disregard of normal life and detention of leadership. This is a situation without precedent in South Asian subcontinent and few parallels in the whole world.The people of Kashmir urge the UN that they would be allowed to decide their future through an unrigged and uncoerced vote under impartial auspices.
Sareer Fazili, Esq (New York) said, "We stand in solidarity with the occupied Kashmiris and what they are facing. We stand with the Kashmiris and condemn in the strongest terms the use of pellet guns against Kashmiri children.This barbaric treatment is a violation of the most basic of human rights. The attacks on hospitals, medical and assistant staff, ambulance personnel and patients themselves are further evidence of India's depravity in Kashmir. Indian press estimates of over 300,000 mourners for the funeral of Burhan Wani, the dynamic face of the new Kashmiri generation fighting Indian occupation, is evidence of the sentiment for freedom on the streets of Kashmir.
Dr. Imtiaz Khan (Maryland) said, "We strongly condemn the human right abuses unleashed by Indian occupation forced on the peace loving people of Kashmir. I appeal to the international community totake notice of the fact that Indian security have destroyed at least 50 ambulances and damaged several hospitals and thrashed the patients treated for bullet wounds. These cases need to be reported to international court of justice and members of Indian government tried for crimes against humanity. We demand that doctors without borders and International Red Cross be allowed a free access to occupied Kashmir so that they can mitigate the miseries faced by the people. Also free access for the independent journalist is demanded so that they can record the abuses inflicted on the civilian population
Sardar Sawar Khan (New York) said that Kashmir continued to bleed but the UN and US have not broken the silence. A systematic campaign of terror had been launched against the people of Kashmir. A deliberate targeting of youth with the intent to crush the movement should be the grave concern of the leadership of the civilized nations including UN. He called for implementing U.N. resolutions on Kashmir, saying their struggle for freedom will not stop until the resolution of decades-old dispute.
Shaheen Khalid Butt (New York) wanted to bring to the attention of the UN and US that the reports of the entire population of major towns in the Valley of Kashmir, defying curfew, coming out the streets with the demand for a speedy implementation of the pledge solemnly extended to them by India and Pakistan and the UN. Shaheen Butt said that India has turned Kashmir into a big prison and its people are being held incommunicado.
Sardar Imtiaz Khan, New Jersey said that Kashmir was the underlying cause of tension between India and Pakistan. The world powers must impress upon the Government of India to stop human rights violations in Kashmir.
"India Stop Genocide in Kashmir", "Freedom for all: Freedom for Kashmir", "Kashmiri Lives Matter," "Time to resolve the Kashmir dispute is now", "We Want Freedom From India", Wake Up, Wake Up—UN Wake Up", "Kashmir: Nuclear Flashpoint" were some of the placards the protesters were holding.

The infant mortality rate in Sindh was recorded at 82 deaths per 1,000 live births (8.2 percent) and under-five mortality rate at 104 per 1,000 (10.4 percent), according to the Sindh Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS), 2014.
Besides, around four of 10 children in the province under five are underweight and 17 percent are classified as severely underweight.
The findings of the MICS, 2014 were revealed in a presentation by planning and development department to Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah. The survey is designed to provide estimates for more than 100 indicators on situation of children in the province.
Briefing the meeting, ACS (Development) Mohammad Waseem said it was one of the largest surveys in Sindh with a sample size of 19,360 households.
He added that the survey conducted from January to August 2014 was part of the fifth global round of the Multiple Indicator Clusters Surveys programme.
The senior minister for finance and planning and development said the MICS was a unique source of information which would serve as a baseline for researchers, policy makers, planners, and individuals and provide evidence-based data for decision making.
The survey was conducted by the Bureau of Statistics in collaboration with Unicef and the Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources. The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics provided the sampling frame.
Bureau of Statistics additional secretary Shahnawaz Jaskani said in recent years, the people of Sindh had experienced two record-breaking floods and rains.
The children may have been disproportionately affected and Sindh MICS 2014 shows that the infant mortality rate is 82 deaths per 1,000 live births and the under-five mortality rate is 104 deaths per 1,000.
Nutrition
About the nutritional status, the report states that more than four out of 10 children under the age of five are underweight and 17 percent are classified as severely underweight. Almost half of the children under five years (48 percent) are stunted or short for their age and one quarter (24 percent) are severely stunted.
The report reveals that 15 percent of the children are thin for their height and only one percent of are overweight or too heavy for their height.
Vaccination
The report states that immunisation is the key to preventing diseases among children. Over all 35 percent of children aged between 12 and 23 months received all the recommended vaccines, reflecting improvement in the last few years in comparison with the findings of the survey conducted in 2012.
Similarly, an improvement has been witnessed in measles vaccine coverage which is 53 percent against 45 percent in 2012.
Water and sanitation
Around 90 percent of the population has access to improved sources of drinking water while it was hardly 80 percent in the survey conducted in 2003.
Three percent of households use drinking water indicating arsenic contamination while 39 percent of houses use drinking water indicating E.coli contamination.
Reproductive health
The fertility rate in the province is four children per woman while it was 5.3 children per woman as per the findings of the 2003-04 survey.
Around 29 percent of married women use contraceptives.
Almost 80 percent of married women receive antenatal care from a skilled provider which is almost 100 percent improvement in the last decade in comparison with the findings of the MICS 2003-o4 when it was recorded at 42 percent.
The prevalence of institutional deliveries has also considerably increased from 42 percent in DHS 2006-07 to 62 percent in the current survey.
Education and literacy
Over half or 52.3 percent of girls aged between 15 and 24 years in the province are literate. 45.2 percent of school-age children currently attending primary education or higher education with a modest improvement against 39 percent in the MICS 2003-o4.
The report further states that for every 100 boys attending primary schools, 86 girls are also attending and 81 girls for every 100 boys are attending secondary school.
Child protection
Around 29.1 percent of births of children under five are registered. Over 26 percent of the children aged between five and 17 years are involved in labour.
About 81 percent of children between one and 14 years experience psychological aggression, physical punishment or violent behaviour as a method of discipline.
Around 16.3 percent girls aged between 15 and 19 years are married.
However, there seems to be a decline in the number of girls being married off before the age of 15.
The data reflects that 17.5 percent of women in the age group of 45 and 49 years had married before the age of 15 compared with four percent of women between 15 and 19 years.
The report giving an interesting revelation on access to mass media states that overall 70.4 percent of women either watch TV, read newspapers or magazines or listen to the radio at least once a week.
The report states that among the women aged between 15 and 24, almost 21 percent used a computer during a one year period before the survey and 13.1 percent used a computer at least once a week during the past month.
Around 13 percent of young women had used internet during the past few years. Only 8.1 of young women used the social media at least once a week during the last month.
More than half of the women in rich households used social media compared with less than one percent in poor households.
