Apple Places Order for 15 Million iPhone 5 Handsets
By: Vincent Chang | 5th Jul 2011
Taiwan-based computer manufacturer, Pegatron Technology is reported to have won ordered for 15 million of Apple's forthcoming iPhone 5 handset, with shipments expected to start in September.
Citing sources at component suppliers, DigiTimes said that the company won the order following its cooperation with Apple for its CDMA based iPhone 4 model. Pegatron's plants in Shanghai, China have also recently started hiring for manpower to meet the Apple order.
The sources added though that the iPhone 5 does not seem to be a major upgrade to the current model, raising questions about the rumours of curved fascias and significant design upgrades.
As usual with OEM manufacturers, the company declined to comment on any relationship it might have with Apple.
